Foreign Languages
Our foreign language department offers elementary and middle school exposure to both French and Spanish, as well as French, Spanish and Latin at the high school level. In an effort to allow for students to take a language all the way up, rotations have been set up in the elementary ages. Although students stay at the introduction, beginning and intermediate levels for 2 years, teachers rotate the curriculum so that the course will vary. Students taking a foreign language beginning in elementary school will have the advantage of repeated exposure to that language, and ultimately higher success at the high school level. At the Intermediate level, students who have been taking a language for several years, perform at an "A" level in Intermediate French or Spanish and have a strong background in English grammar will be ready for High School level French 1, Spanish 1, even if they are only in the 7th or 8th grade. This year we are including a Conversational French and Conversational Spanish day on Tuesdays for French and Spanish 1 & 2 to allow for more exposure to the spoken language.
